VW Golf mk3 Secret Tachometer Tutorial



This video shows how to get to the secret digital tachometer (RPM gauge), and how it works 🙂

1= Distance Impulse number – the number of speedo sender pulses required to +1 the odometer. for miles the number is in the 6000 range, for kilometers the number is in the 3000 range.
2 = Clock display mode – 1: Europe (24 hour time) 2: Canada? 3. UK (12 hour) 4. USA (12 hour) 5. South Africa?
3 = Speedometer and rev. counter code
4 = number of cylinders, or ratio for alternator/engine revolutions. (for tach calibration)
5 = Segment test (lights all LCD segments)
6 = Speedomenter sender impulses – each wheel revolution adds 7 to this count.
8 = program version

  1. Hey, this works, but my question is.. can i somehow modify my rev counter? It’s still at full rpm after changing my engine from TD to TDI i need to readjust them.. because now i can rev up to 10k 😂

  3. @106YeahYeah I charged my battery with a Dewalt battery charged. It plugs into an outlet in house. My clock still resets every time i turn it on/off. Think I should just get a new battery?

  4. @sh115067 I have the same car and mine would do that when the cars battery was almost flat . even though the car would start first time the clock would reset . when I charged it back to 12v it was ok .

  5. this didn't work on my mk3. When I turned on my car it just showed the odometer and and ever time I pressed the button it switched in between the odometer and the trip tracker
